The New Year has finally arrived on our doorstep. What can I wish that the coming year may bring me?
Nothing that shall make the world more difficult or sadder for others, but just those little things which in their coming do not stop with me but touch me rather, as they pass and gather strength.
As I look back on all that has taken place in my life, including the very sad losses over the past year or two, I’m remembering each experience for the good or bad that has come of it and for the wisdom or lesson I have gained. I’m remembering the efforts I have made and the goals I have reached. I’m remembering the love I have shared and the happiness I have brought and received in return. I’m remembering the laughter, the joy and contentment, as well as the tears that waited upon my grief and the pain of those few words, “If I knew …”
As I reflect on the past year, I’m honouring the soft memories of the past, remembering that this is the time of new beginnings and the celebration of life. Importantly, I'm remembering to be grateful for every little thing and to count the blessings that come my way. Last but not least, I'm reminded of a quote by Francis Scott Fitzgerald that prompted my father to live his life in a particular way:
"It was only a sunny smile, and little it cost in the giving, but like morning light it scattered the night and made the day worth living."
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 to us all!
